Santa Clara, Calif – March 3, 2010 – MontaVista® Software LLC, the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, announced today they have been selected from hundreds of nominations as a finalist in two categories for this year's EDN Innovation Awards. Instituted in 1990, the Innovation Awards honor the people, products, and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year. MontaVista is a finalist for Innovator of the Year and the Embedded/Software Tools categories. EDN's worldwide audience of electronic engineers and engineering managers select the ultimate winners from among the finalists along with EDN's editorial staff. In the Innovator of the Year category, the MontaVista Linux team who developed the one second fast boot demonstration was nominated for their ground-breaking technical innovation. This sample dashboard application, fully operational in one second from power on, achieves a level of previously unmatched performance on any embedded Linux. This level of performance is required in industries such as automotive, industrial automation, and military/aerospace among others.
MontaVista's newest product, MontaVista Linux 6 (MVL6) was nominated in the Embedded/Software Tools category. MVL6 delivers a new approach to embedded Linux development with Market Specific Distributions, the MontaVista Integration Platform and unprecedented flexibility in a commercial Linux solution. MVL6 changes the approach by enabling developers to build from source to more easily customize their software stack, add product-differentiating features, and leveraging the power of the open source community.
This year's awards featured 120 finalists in 32 categories. To qualify, nominees must have demonstrated innovation that resulted in a significant advance in technology and/or product development during the past 12 months. Winners will be announced at a reception and awards ceremony on April 26, 2010, in San Jose, CA.
