MontaVista Software and Robert Bosch Car Multimedia Sign Agreement to Jointly Deliver Linux-based Solutions for the Automotive Industry

Development of Linux-based In-Vehicle Infotainment software platform is the first step in a long term partnership to develop Bosch customer software solutions and contribute to the GENIVI Alliance

SANTA Clara, Calif. and Hildesheim, Germany - June 28, 2010 - MontaVista® Software, LLC (NASDAQ: CAVM), the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, and Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH(BOSCH), one of the leading suppliers of automotive infotainment systems, announced they have entered into a multi-year, significant agreement for MontaVista to develop and deliver Linux-based software solutions for BOSCH. The first project will be for a cross carline, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) solution and is the first of multiple Linux-based software solutions for BOSCH.

BOSCH leverages Linux-based open source software to ease and accelerate the integration of innovative multimedia features into automotive solutions. After months of research and an in-depth competitive analysis, they selected MontaVista as both the software and solutions provider. MontaVista's deep experience in embedded software development, along with their commercial quality Linux products gave BOSCH confidence they were selecting a mature, stable, commercial quality Linux platform to build solutions on. In addition, MontaVista's product experience in markets such as telecom and mobile proved they could deliver the quality, performance, and reliability required in demanding applications such as automotive. Finally, BOSCH's focus on long term support and MontaVista's track record of delivering complete software solutions and extended support will result in a strong, market leading partnership.

Another important goal of the partnership will be to contribute to, and drive the development of, the rapidly evolving GENIVI Alliance platform. The GENIVI Alliance is a non-profit industry alliance committed to driving the broad adoption of an IVI reference platform that delivers a common software architecture scalable across product lines and generations. MontaVista is a member of GENIVI and member of the GENIVI board of directors.

Supporting Quotes:
"When we decided to base our next generation in-vehicle infotainment systems on Linux, we needed a vendor who understood not just Linux, but how to deliver complete Linux-based software solutions in the demanding automotive environment," said Dr. Ing. Michael Bolle, senior vice president of the Business Unit Automotive Navigation and Infotainment Systems at BOSCH. "Former infotainment architectures were based on proprietary software platforms which imposed high porting efforts to bring existing multimedia applications into the car. By deploying Linux and open source software and leveraging the power of the open source community, development resources can be shifted from non-differentiating application porting activities to differentiating software development, i.e. HMI adaptations."

For over ten years, MontaVista has been a pioneer in the embedded software market with their Linux products, support offerings, and ability to deliver complete solutions. They have also been a constant innovator and strong contributor to the open source community. This made them the natural choice to partner with for our Linux-based products, and to also influence the development of the GENIVI platform.

"Like other industries, automotive is rapidly embracing Linux as the development platform of choice for new applications. This industry demands the MontaVista emphasis on commercial quality Linux, the end-to-end integration of available solution stacks and most importantly, long term support," said Art Landro, president of MontaVista. "Our new partnership with BOSCH is further evidence of this. We look forward to helping BOSCH deliver innovative solutions to their customers, while contributing to the growth and success of the GENIVI Alliance in the process."
