MontaVista Strengthens its Leadership Position
In the Communications Market

MontaVista is the First to Register Compliance with Both SA Forum Specifications
and OSDL CGL Requirements; and the Only CGL-Registered Distribution
to Deploy Into Carrier Networks on Three Generations of Product

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 2, 2005 — MontaVista Software, Inc., the leading Linux provider for the embedded and communications markets, today announced it registered MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) with both the Service Availability™ Forum (SA Forum) specifications and Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) Carrier Grade Linux requirements.

As the only Linux provider to achieve this dual registration, this announcement demonstrates MontaVista’s continued market and technology leadership. Compliance with these important and rapidly evolving standards ultimately provides original equipment manufacturers and telecom equipment manufacturers with flexible, standards-based building blocks to help them create telecom solutions.

“With a product in its third generation and a customer base of the world’s leading equipment suppliers, MontaVista earned both the technical experience and market expertise to ensure we meet our customers’ needs,” said Kelly Herrell, senior vice president, Strategic Operations, MontaVista Software. “Our deep community participation, active membership in OSDL and SAF, and rapid registration of standards compliance are important keys to maintaining our substantial competitive advantage against the many companies now claiming to have Linux-based products for the carrier market.”

MontaVista was the first to market with carrier-grade Linux years ago. Since that time, three generations of MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) products are being used today in telecommunications applications for use in communications network infrastructure solutions.

"Iskratel has successfully deployed new and advanced telecommunications products for multi-service access networks, consistent with the needs of our customers, with MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition enabling us to provide our customers reliable, high performance and cost-effective solutions." - Franc Dolenc, Director of Iskratel Business Unit Wireline

“Using MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition, which provides a level of reliability unattainable so far with any other OS, along with high availability middleware from NEC, enabled us to build a platform that can truly support carrier grade services. We are convinced that we can quickly respond to the demands for low cost and high performance from the mobile phone market, which is expanding rapidly.” - Mr. Takatoshi Numasato, Senior General Manager, Mobile Network Operation Unit, NEC Corporation

“The Service Availability™ Forum is dedicated to creating, publishing and fostering adoption of open specifications of high availability and management interfaces for carrier grade systems. We are pleased to recognize the support and leadership shown by MontaVista Software in these efforts with their implementation and adoption of these specifications.” - Deepak Shahane, President, SA Forum

“MontaVista Software is one of the very first Carrier Grade Linux working group members. Their leadership role in this initiative contributed significantly to CGL’s success and established CGL as a key benchmark for Linux deployment in the communications industry. MontaVista is also a key contributor to the overall acceleration of Linux in this space.” - Stuart Cohen, CEO, OSDL
